LJ Entry – “Travel Prayer”

In December 2010, my choir had the honor of singing at the Vatican in Rome, Italy, which included a concert, several masses, and an audience with the Pope.  The church ordered new choir robes, and we flew out with great anticipation.  Only to find out it was going to rain the entire time we were there.  I decided to cheer everyone up by making a customized prayer before we got on the plane.  It must have worked; everybody’s spirits lifted, and the rain only fell in Rome on the one day we WEREN’T in the city.  All in all, it was a great trip.

Oh Lord,

Keep our voices clean and pure

Let us rock the house in Assisi

Keep our drivers swift and sure

Keep our new robes wrinkle free

We would love the sun to shine

And our luggage to make it to Rome

But if it’s rainy we won’t whine

And if it’s cloudy we won’t moan

We make this pilgrimage in Your Name

And with the love of the people in your pews

We don’t go performing for fortune or fame

But to share the gift of your Good News

Let us come back renewed and refreshed

In body, in mind and in spirit

To live our lives as You think best

So that others may hear it

Bless the people of St Nicholas

And everyone who is dear to me

Let our faith shine like stained glass

We’ll show Your love for all to see
